There is nothing new about men gathering together in their own space to talk, share skills, swap ideas, solve problems or just discuss life in general it has been happening since the beginning of time. There is nothing new either about men spending time in their backyard shed an acknowledged Aussie pastime.
What is new is that men, particularly retired men, are combining these two activities in a communal space simply called a "Mens Shed". What is also new is how strongly men have embraced this new identity being a member of a Mens Shed. Mens Sheds, as such, are a peculiarly Australian phenomenon. In the past decade a wide range of community-based Mens Sheds has sprung up - each with its own unique identity and purpose. The Minyip Shed is just one of them. You can find us at the Minyip Recreation Oval on most Wednesday mornings. We must also acknowlegde the support given to us through the Government Victorian Community Support Grants Schemes

The common theme in all Sheds is about men feeling useful and contributing to their communities, learning or sharing their skills, making friends, networking and availing themselves of health information programmes and opportunities.
Preparing a Hand Ball target for the Minyip Show plus a good saw bench for handy projects.
Preparing a park bench for a new coat of paint.
One of the projects undertaken by the Minyip Shed was the restoration of the the Fire Brigades Running Reel. That is now on display in the Minyip Art Center.Below you can see the reel before and after the restoration.
When you come to the Mens Shed you come to share a variety of tools and spend time learning new skills or just keeping old skills honed and productive or maybe just pop in and simply share a cuppa and a bit of a chat.
Here in the Minyip Shed we welcome men of all ages and walks of life. There is an annual membership fee of $20.00.We also acknowledge those members of the community who have graciously loaned us the use of tools, machinery and other equipment during our establishment.

“Everybody in a Mens Shed has a story to tell.We all come from different backgrounds and religions. We all have much in common and we must learn from others. All it takes is just a moment of our time just to stop and listen.”
